It for some reason the sight is loose, use a solid brass drift and hammer straight down just in front and to the rear of the sight. This presses the edges or ears of the barrel dove tail onto the rear sight, locking it in position.Shoot loose is the term for the frame lengthening in the thin area above the cylinder when speaking of a Remington style gun. For a Colt style it means the cylinder pin that holds the barrel to the frame tends to pull out of the rear frame with heavy loads. It would will also hit a grouse's head/neck at 10-20 yards.I like the fact that they have a hole cross drilled horizontally in the area where the cap sits. These hole direct the blow back gases outward and help split the cap for easy removal. My other choice of nipples would be the Knight "Red Hot". Both nipples come in sizes to fit your rifles. Here it is. #2.Drill 5/32 hole completely through center of arbor housing. #3.Put release agent on arbor ,and everywhere on outside of barrel that could possibly get over flow compound on it.With conicals, You can go a bit slower than 1:48 and still stabilize some longer bullets. With a .40 all shots need to be at the head/neck area even with very light loads. Mid-body hits might be okay, you'll just have to see. Soak a couple of cotton floor mop strands in a potassium nitrate solution (black powder will work). Clamp one in the cocked jaws of your flintlock cock, light the end of it, and open the frizzen to expose your priming powder. Pull the trigger. I would heavily recommend you get the Dragoon. The Walker is awesome for its size and the history around it, but that size is exactly what eventually makes it just turn into a PITA to shoot. The Dragoon has all the good parts of the Walker while being significantly handier.This is a matter of leverage so, moving the pivot point closer to the sear arm (usually moving it rearward towards the butt of the gun) or, bending the sear arm so it makes contact with the trigger blade is the only fix. Bending the arm on the sear has it's risks. I bought this rifle for a much grander project. I was planning to make wooden side panels for barrels and reset ramrod pipes. Stock had damage to toe, that I repaired, as well as a cracked buttplate. Had to take a much larger one and refit it.The dovetails on a CVA Hawken are metric (don't know the exact size) smaller than the 3/8 sights most suppliers have. I bought the 3/8 and with a little judicious filing on them they fit the CVA dovetails. I didn't want to enlarge the dovetails in case I went back to the stock sights. The front & rear are the same size.Pro's and Con's wanted from those who have owned or fired this rifle. Been looking for something a bit more traditional to replace my Bobcat with and the St Louis Hawken is one I have been looking at recently. Have also looked at the Lyman Trade rifle and Traditions Woodsman. Any comments on....
