High overtones are more like whistling through the sax than anything else. The OD of the Selmer bass neck that fits the Selmer Bass mouthpiece is 0.700". This is slightly larger in diameter than most of the vintage bass instruments that are more common. These instruments' necks will often accept the slightly smaller neck diameter of baritone mouthpieces.6) transpose and repeat; 7) record what you played and check for areas to improve. Obviously, for a good singer transposition is not much of an issue, unless it leads to getting out of range (however, one has a similar range problem with the saxophone).I dislike the Alto, I have a SX90, and did not care at all for the Soprano's. The 62 can be pretty bright depending on your disposition and the era of the sax. The 82Z is a darker sound than the 62 and blows a lot freer than the SX90. All 3 are good, usable saxes and solid for learning on. The tone, however, is nothing like that of either Yamaha, or Selmer. The tonal color is dark, and very different than any other modern tenor I've ever played. The normal (as far as I know) black nickel saxophone finish is an extremely thin layer of actual plating, probably the thinnest of all platings used in sax finishes. It is just thick enough for a uniform layer of color, just barely thicker than a layer of 'tarnish'.The transposition is tough as well. The Alto Sax is in G. When it is three hours into a gig, some one requests a tune on the big flute on the stand, and you have had three or four Guinnesses, then tell me how well you can transpose a lead sheet into the key you need to be successful on Alto Sax. Personally I think working on altissimo IF you use it is a good idea, and the first 3-4 overtones are useful, but getting a million overtones is just a party trick.With a PASSIVE speaker system, traditionally the weak part is the speakers, so replacing the speakers often allows you to use more power without them sounding like garbage, and without blowing the speakers.
