No reason to not get it for future proofer system. But you're still going to want to get that PoE switch. I have just implemented the same setup (opnsense router, Unifi Access Points) as I didn't want the Unifi gateway. Works fine, if you miss something it is the integrated console that manages your router and WiFi (but you get the much more powerful opnsense console in place).
